Joseph Edward McCann
July 22, 1938 – June 17, 2026
Joseph Edward McCann, age 87, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, service, devotion to family, and a life well lived.
Born on July 22, 1938, Joseph was the son of Edmund McCann and Sarah Jane Sweeney. Joseph had four siblings: Betty (and Angelo) Raparano, Joan McCann, Ellen McCann (Joseph’s twin) and Edward McCann and they preceded Joseph in death.
Joseph was blessed to experience love throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved wives: Marion Hodson McCann, Poppie Hodge McCann, and Betty Jean Bragdon McCann. His marriage to Betty brought him great happiness, and together they created countless cherished memories, especially while cruising the waterways they both loved.
A devoted father, Joseph, is survived by his children, Norman Carey and Marion Baker. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Carey, and his son, David McCann.
Joseph was a proud grandfather whose family brought him immense joy. He is survived by his grandchildren: Norman Carey, Michelle Carey, Elaine Carey, Anthony Carey, Brendan Brown, Joseph Baker, and Christopher Baker. He was preceded in death by his grandson, David Carey. Joseph had numerous great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them when they visited the farm. He also had numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family whom he cherished.
From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic that would define his life and career. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy from July 9, 1956, until July 8, 1962. During his military service aboard the USS Randolph, he learned the trade of electrician—a profession that became his lifelong calling. His dedication, skill, and commitment to excellence continued throughout his civilian career, culminating in his role as Chief Electrical Inspector for the City of Coral Springs. He faithfully served the community until his retirement in 2010 at the age of 72, earning the respect of colleagues and those whose lives he touched through his work.
Outside of work, Joseph found his greatest pleasures in life's simple pursuits. He loved spending time on the water with Betty, tending to the bulls and cows on his farm, and keeping a close eye on the stock market, always eager to discuss the latest market trends with family and friends. Whether working with his hands, enjoying nature, or sharing stories with those he loved, Joseph lived with determination, curiosity, and quiet strength.
Joseph will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his profession, and his family. His integrity, resilience, and generous spirit leave an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved and remembered.
