Joseph D. Keane, 88, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Monday, August6, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born on October 9, 1923 in Clonmel, Ireland but moved to New York City as a child. Growing up in NY, Joe haunted the museums and libraries and developed a love of learning which lasted a lifetime. Joe attended Queens College and during the war he worked on The Manhattan Project at Colombia University. He spent 13 years working for Sperry Gyroscope in Long Island and later did industrial sales for Eutectic Co. of Switzerland. In 1972 he moved to West Palm Beach to become the Executive Director of the Animal Rescue League. Joe retired in 1986 from Laboratory Data Control. Along with his great love for animals, Joe was a man with many interests, including photography, art, theatre, sailing and traveling the world. He will be missed by all who knew him for his humor and lively intellect. Joseph's memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jean Keane; sister-in-law, Rose Keane; nephew, Bill Keane; niece, Kimberly Keane; sister, Margie (Boris) Pozniak; sister-in-law Pat (Dick) Fleckner; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear and loving friends. He was predeceased by his brother Bill Keane, husband of Rose. A celebration of Joe's life will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joseph's name to The Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of The Palm Beaches. http://www.hspb.org/
