J.A. Bennett May 20, 1940 ? October 10, 2007 J.A. ?Jay? Bennett passed away peacefully in the company of family and friends at his home in Wellington, FL after a long fight with cancer. Born in Nashville, GA, Jay spent most of his life in Florida. He served his country in the US Army as a cryptographic supervisor in Europe and later served in the US Coast Guard where he escorted missiles to Cape Canaveral and designed the plaque in honor of the first Coast Guard recipient of the Medal of Honor, which stands today at Avery Point in Groton, CT. He later worked for over 20 years at Rinker Materials in Palm Beach County and was the owner of J.A. Bennett Landscaping for the past 15 years. Jay is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Janet; daughter Tammy Williams (David) of Ocala, FL; son J. Todd Bennett (Julie) of Fayetteville, GA; daughter Kelly Burton (Robert) of Delray Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Cassie and Kara Mosley of Ocala, FL, Thomas and Carter Bennett of Fayetteville, GA, Madison Gallo and Tristan Burton of Delray Beach, FL; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2007 at the Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, FL, (561) 753-6004. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30PM, with the services immediately following at 2:30PM.
