John Maynard Spear passed away peacefully in Hospice on May 4, 2011 in Lake Worth, FL, surrounded by his loving wife and family. The first of five sons of John Claude and Marie Evelyn Spear, John was born on October 27, 1934 in Meadville, PA. John's family moved west to CA in the spring of 1946 and settled in the city of Whittier. After graduating from Excelsior High School in 1952, he attended Whittier College and transferred his sophomore year to USC. John M. Spear graduated Cum Laude from University of Southern California, School of Commerce, June 9, 1956. He graduated third in his class and was in the Beta Alpha Psi honor society, recognizing his excellence in accounting. John started his 42 year successful career in San Diego, CA with the FedMart Corporation where he advanced to a Senior Vice President Treasurer. FedMart became Sun Belt Properties and in 1986, John and his wife Charlotte relocated to Lake Worth, FL with the company. John enjoyed traveling and learning about native birds and flowers. Upon his retirement in FL, he enjoyed many interests when he wasn't in front of the computer playing Solitaire, including visiting with his family, volunteering for the Veterans Administration, working Suduko puzzles, reading the New York Times and partaking in a chocolate milkshake or ice cream cone when he was walking at Wellington Green Mall. John is survived by Charlotte Freedman Spear, his wife of 29 years; children, Corinne Schnider of Tuttle, OK, Michelle Wies of Yakima, WA, Cindy Hudson (Howard) of Eldora, IA and Richard Spear of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, former wife and mother of his children Suzy Cataline of Rockport, TX. Brothers; Roger (Barbara) of La Habra, CA, James of San Diego, CA, Robert (Dale) of Chandler, AZ and Paul of Rancho Mirage, CA and seven nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Marie, son John Wesley Spear and grandson John Albert Paredez. The family will celebrate his life in Whittier, CA in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to The Lauer Unit at JKF Hospice, 5301 S. Congress Avenue Atlantis, FL 33462.
