John M. Hatch age 93 passed away on March 8th, 2009 at his home in Royal Palm Beach FL. He was born on February 12 1916 in Humphreys, Louisiana to Georgie and Walter Hatch who preceded him in death. John went out into the world at an early age during the Great Depression working in the construction and sugar industries. He served in the Army Air Corps during World WarII and was particularly proud of his service with Higgins Industries and his contribution to the Higgins landing craft which were built in New Orleans, La. John traveled throughout Central and South America and the West Indies, pursuing his dream. Following these adventures, he settled in Pahokee, FL in 1962 and worked in Fabricating at US Sugar's Bryant Plant until his retirement in 1985. John was a Masonic Member who was instrumental in the planning and building of the Everglades Lodge No. 211 in Pahokee, FL and was Worshipful Master in 1977. He received his Degree of Master Mason in 1939 and joined the Lake Worth Scottish Rite and was made a 32nd Degree Mason on November 12th 1944. John was an active member of The Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, a Shriner and a member of The BPOE Lodge in Pahokee, FL, who also enjoyed traveling, golf and above all socializing and telling stories with his unique sense of humor about his many travels. He was a Master Welder, Certified Joiner and Draftsman as well as a self-taught carpenter, electrician, plumber and generally speaking, a man of many talents who enjoyed doing projects around his home and for his family. This wonderful man is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Silky) Hatch, daughters, Susie Hatch (deceased), Kathy Ryan (Larry), Connie Hatch Jahnke (Eric deceased), Elizabeth A. (Bonnie) Matthews (Jimmy), and son, Peter R. Chin-Aleong (Wanda). Granddaughters, Lora Schott (Adam), Kelli Ryan, and Christine E. Gorgone (Joey), Grandsons Gabriel (Gabe) Schumm, Darin C. Chin-Aleong (Trina), and Jason A. (Andy) Matthews. Great grandchildren, Skylar, Erin, Nathan and Aidan Schott, Alyxandrea and Jimmy Gorgone and Tyler Chin-Aleong and several relatives and friends in Louisiana and Texas. The Family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Palm Beach County for the compassion and care provided to make his last days comfortable. A Memorial Service will be held at Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Parkway, Royal Palm Beach, FL on March 12th 2009 at 11:30 AM.
