Joan (Miscia) Bien was reunited with God on September 10, 2026.
Born and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Joan moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1958, where she built a life centered around family, hard work, and caring for others. She worked as a bookkeeper while raising six children and still found time to volunteer in her community.
After raising her family, Joan opened her home and heart to care for severely disabled children. She adopted David Spears and lovingly cared for him until his passing in 1992. In retirement, she continued giving her time to others, volunteering at Country Hills Elementary alongside her granddaughter, as well as at Caridad Center and St. Vincent de Paul Seminary. Joan also tirelessly campaigned to raise funds for Alzheimer's research.
Joan never met a stranger. She loved the theater, a passion she shared with and passed along to her grandchildren. She loved to dance and, in her later years, to travel. Her adventures took her throughout much of the United States and to Italy, France, and Egypt, including memorable travels with her friend Rheta and her niece Patty.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Irene and Joseph, and her daughters, Joanne (Bill) Teicher and Gail Trolinger.
She is survived by her children, Maureen Cavallaro, Donna (Stephen) Collins, Brian (Dana) Bien, and Laura (Greg) Musgrave; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Joan will be remembered for her love of family, her generous spirit, her willingness to care for others, and her remarkable ability to make a friend wherever she went.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Joan's memory to Alzheimer's Research (Alzheimer's Association ) or Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
