Rev. Jerome H. Braun

Braun, Jerome Harry Jerome Harry Braun went to dwell in the house of the Lord on July 16, 2020. Jerome (Jerry) was born in Hartford, WI, on July 12, 1934, the son of Gustav and Dina (nee Haack) Braun. He was baptized on September 9, 1934 at Peace Lutheran parsonage in Hartford. Jerry attended Washington Public School and then Hartford High School, graduating in 1952. He obtained the rest of his language prerequisites the next year at Northwestern Prep School. He graduated from Northwestern College in 1957 and then enrolled in Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI, graduating in 1961. He vicared at St. Croix Lutheran High School where he was very proud to have helped start their band program. Over the years, he taught Old Testament history, Latin, and Spanish while he served as a tutor at Northwestern Prep, and as a professor at Martin Luther Academy (New Ulm, MN), Martin Luther Prep (Prairie du Chien, WI) and at Luther Prep (Watertown, WI). He also served as a pastor at churches in Sheridan and Seaforth, MN, Altura, MN, and Fredericksburg, TX. Jerry married Janice Schmidt in 1963 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Atkinson, WI. Their marriage was blessed with four children. After retirement Jerry and Janice lived in Mission, TX, and Fond du Lac, WI. Jerry spent the last few years in West Palm Beach, FL. Jerry loved his Lord, his family, and his friends, and his sense of humor and kindness were endearing to those who knew him. He enjoyed playing the trumpet, collecting, traveling, dining out and donut day in the faculty lounge. Jerry is survived by four children: Jennifer Muffler, Rockville, MD, James, South Milwaukee, WI, Joel (Lea) Alexander, AR, and Julia (John) Boggs, West Palm Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren: Michael, Caleb, and Logan Braun, Allison, Jenna, Ryan, and Micah Boggs; one sister: Betty McFarlane; four sisters-in-law: Marge Hewitt, Barb Smith, Nancy Darr, and Judy Wohlman; and two brothers-in-law, Pete Darr and Len Wohlman. He was preceded in death by his wife: Janice Braun; parents: Gustav and Dina Braun; brother: Russell; and brothers-in-law Roy McFarlane, Don Smith, and Gary Hewitt and son-in-law Richard Muffler. Memorials may be sent to Luther Preparatory School, 1300 Western Ave. Watertown, WI 53094-4814 indicating it for the Jerome and Janice Braun Scholarship Fund.
