Jerry Victor Gummere Jerry was born January 12, 1934 in Oak Park, Illinois and passed away on June 10, 2009 at Wellington Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Lenz-Schiele) of 17 wonderful and fun years full of love and her sons Charles Cullen Schiele (Lori) of Alachua, Florida and Richard Lenz Schiele (Kara) of Yorktown, Virginia. Jerry will also be sadly missed by his children whom he loved and loved him from his marriage to Dorothy Buckles Gummere, Becky White (Rhied), Cindy Todd (Donald), Vic Gummere (Barbara) and Julie Temple (Tom). Having been an only child to Victor Leroy and Mildred Thompson Gummere of Terre Haute Indiana, who preceded him in death, he will be always in the hearts of a large blended family which includes 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jerry was a very loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jerry was very active in and a past exalted ruler and life member of the Belle Glade B.P.O.E. Lodge #1716. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Belle Glade American Legion, the Belle Glade Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star as well as having served as an advisor to the Order of the Rainbow Girls organization for many years. He retired from the position of Purchasing Manager for South Bay Growers/United States Sugar Corporation. Prior to that, he managed Richmond Plumbing and provided bookkeeping services for many businesses in Belle Glade, including Roe Steele. Until this year he was a tax professional for H and R Block in Wellington. He loved sports of any kind having played many years for a Belle Glade softball team but he particularly enjoyed sports when his grandchildren were playing. Jerry was honored for his many years of service working the sidelines for the Glades Day School football "chain gang!" Integrity, confidence, loyalty to his many friends, never missing a dance....Jerry was a man's man in every way. He loved a good, funny story and could remember every one he heard entertaining people from all walks of life with his tales. He enjoyed life, he did it his way, he lived it to the fullest. The family of Jerry Gummere invite his friends to the Memorial Service at Palms West Funeral Home, 5PM-7PM on Monday June 15th. A special service to celebrate his life when "bluebirds call".....will begin at 6:30 PM. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 16th at the South Florida National Cemetery on State Road 7, Lake Worth, Florida.
