Janet Eleanor Swanson

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Janet Eleanor Swanson, née Pratt, age 79 of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on September 1, 2026. She was surrounded by loving family as she entered eternal rest. She was a cherished wife, mother, Nana, and Great Nana and her presence and love will be deeply missed.

Janet had a great love for giraffes, wiener dogs, and exotic birds. She loved having fun with family and her laugh would turn into a snortle very quickly which would make us all laugh (and her snortle) even harder. If we only knew those things about her, that would be enough. But there is personal history and family we should mention to keep out of trouble.

Janet was born in Dearborn, Michigan in 1946. She hated the cold, and in 1975 she moved to Florida to raise her family. When I say raise her family, I don’t just mean her son and daughters. Janet’s job and passion was running a childcare program for almost 50 years. Hundreds of children knew her as ‘Miss Janet’, a second mom to them. Janet’s dedication and love for her own kids and her ‘kids’ was unwavering.

Janet is survived by her husband, William Swanson, her son, Frederick Higgins, her daughter, Tracy McShea, and her daughter, Jessica Rodriguez. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Frederick, Tina, Erin, Sean, Brendan, Leia, and Lukas as well as her great grandson, Freddie.

A memorial service will be held on September 19th at Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411. Visitation is from 9:30am to 10:30am with a brief service at 10:30am

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer's Association in memory of Janet’s mother, Dorothy Pratt.
