Janet V. Campbell

December 29, 1953 — September 29, 2025

Janet Vivienne Campbell, born December 29, 1953, in Spanish Wood, St. Thomas, Jamaica, to the late Alexander and Icilda Gollab, was the second of four siblings—Joyce, Janet, Patricia, and Paul. She attended Duckenfield Primary, Happy Grove High, and Shortwood Teachers College, where she trained as an educator and began a lifelong passion for teaching. Janet began her career at Donald Quarrie High School, where she met and married the love of her life, Hugh Campbell, in July 1981. They settled in Harbour View, St. Andrew, and welcomed Sherene and Kahlil. In 1984, Janet moved to New York, later joined by her family, where they built a home in Queens and welcomed their youngest, Chris-Ann. A devoted teacher, Janet worked at P.S. 118 in Queens before relocating to Wellington, Florida, in 2004. There, she joined Western Academy Charter School as a teacher's assistant and aftercare director, touching countless lives until her retirement in 2015. Her granddaughters Kamille and Marley now attend the same school she helped shape. A woman of deep faith, Janet worshiped at Grace Fellowship Church in Florida and previously at Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church in New York. She loved sewing, crafts, floral design, and cooking—sharing her talents generously with family and friends. In January 2025, Physicians discovered a liver mass that would later be diagnosed as advanced biliary duct cancer, which she faced with grace and courage. Surrounded by loved ones, she passed peacefully on September 29, 2025, at age 71. She is lovingly survived by her husband Hugh; children Sherene, Kahlil and daughter in law Kamai, and Chris-Ann and son in law Racheem; grandchildren Rachel, Racheem Jr., Kamille, Marley, and Christopher; two siblings; extended family; and many dear friends. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and service. "When the roll is called up yonder, I will be there!!"
