James Alex Ostendarp

James Alex Ostendarp, 77, of Royal Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, due to complications of emphysema caused by smoking. Jim was the son of the late Alexander James and Aileen (Becker) Ostendarp of Cincinnati, OH. After graduating from Withrow High School in Cincinnati he entered the U.S. Air Force where he navigated B-26 bombers during the Korean War and held top security clearance with the Atomic Energy Commission, of which he was very proud. After leaving the Air Force, Jim graduated with a bachelor?s degree in architecture from Miami University of Oxford, OH. Prior to moving to Florida, Jim was one of the leaders in the wholesale floral industry with the family business, Cincinnati Cut Flower Exchange. Upon moving to Florida, Jim became a Certified General Contractor. In 1978 he built one of the first homes in the Acreage for his family. He continued as a CGC until his retirement five years ago. Jim was a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America in Royal Palm Beach with his son, David. He was an active member in the Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship and became an ordained minister with World Ministry Fellowship in 1981. He and his wife, Joyce, co-pastor Promise House Christian Fellowship in the Acreage. Among his many other activities, Jim?s hobbies included road racing, fishing, camping, studying Scripture, and spending time with his family. Jim?s memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 42 years, Joyce (Sattie) Ostendarp; children, Joette (Kenny) Haydu, Lori (Dennis) Fife, Carol Meyer, Janet (John) Reifenberg and David (Amy) Ostendarp; sister, Linda (James) Salmons; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as numerous friends in the Christian community and the community at large. A visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Palms West Funeral Home with a service beginning at 7:00 PM.
