James William "Jim" Lakatos, 69, of Wellington, Florida, a Purple Heart recipient of the Viet Nam war, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 23, 2016. Born on August 7, 1947, in Hammond, Indiana, son of the late William and Eva Mae Lakatos. Survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Cathy; sons Kyle (Nicole), Nathan, Aaron (Hannah); grandchildren Ava, Madison, Ashton, Alexander, Ari, Lindsey; siblings June (Steve), Marty (Cathie); numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Served in the U. S. Army as a charter member of the 4th Battalion, 503rd Parachute Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, nicknamed "The Geronimo Battalion." Enjoyed RVing, sitting around a campfire, listening to music, visiting with family and friends, watching the Chicago Bears and attending 173rd Airborne conventions. In lieu of flowers donations to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org or www.honorflight.org would be appreciated. Viewing will be at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach, FL on Tuesday, November 29 from 6 – 8 PM. Funeral will be on Wednesday, November 30 at 12 Noon to 1 PM at St. Peters United Methodist Church, Wellington,Fl.with burial to follow at South Florida National Cemetery.
