Irma Domenech Fernandez

Irma Domenech de Fernández Roa, 89, passed away Tuesday in her home in Royal Palm Beach. She was born to the late Angel Domenech and Mérida Caballero on April 26, 1924 in Sagua la Grande, Cuba. She received a BA in humanities and Spanish literature from the University of Havana in 1946. She married the late Alfredo Fernández Roa in 1949 and they lived in Sagua la Grande and Havana, Cuba; Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, before relocating to West Palm Beach in 1992. Irma was a middle school Spanish teacher at Colegio Madre Cabrini in San Juan for 21 years and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. Irma is survived by her three children: Irma Fernández Harahush and her husband Tom of Alexandria, Virginia; Vitalia María Fernández of Ft. Lauderdale and Alfredo José Fernández and his wife Ivelisse of Jupiter. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Harahush, Marcos José Cordero and Alfredo and Patricia Fernández; a sister, Mérida Domenech Blanchard, 10 nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. Her sister Geisha Domenech Echenique preceded her. A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Palm West Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 o'clock in the morning, Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jupiter. Internment will be held at a later time.
