Irene Benevides Barthold, 89, of West Palm Beach, passed away very peacefully on August 21st at Hospice surrounded by her loved ones after a long illness. She was born in Taunton, Massachusetts and throughout her life she traveled to many exciting places before calling West Palm Beach home, where she retired from Palm Tran as a bus operator. She lived life her way. She loved her family, friends and life. She always stood up for what she believed in. Her convictions and tenacity for helping others was unmatched. Her heart was of gold. She was a member of the Democratic Women's Club of Palm Beach County, NOW (National Organization for Women), and she worshiped at Unity of the Palm Beaches for many years in which she loved. She was also a member of the ATU Local 1577. These things she was very passionate about. She had a full and exciting life. She is survived by her daughter Renee Vassallo, grandson Michael Vassallo II, great-granddaughter Harmony Vassallo-Cox and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her granddaughter Alyssa Vassallo, son in law Michael Vassallo Sr.; parents Jerry Benevides, Marion Benevides; brothers Eddie Benevides, Freddie Benevides, Ernest (Honey) Benevides and Arthur Benevides; sisters Mary Corrado and Alice Curtis. She was the last of her immediate family to pass. She is now with them all. Services will be held privately for family only. We want to thank Hospice for helping our family during this trying time. They really do Gods work
