Hyacinth C Baker

September 6, 1934 — January 6, 2022

Hyacinth Cecila Dillon (Baker) was born on September 06, 1934 in the city of San Fernando on the beautiful islands of Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies to the late Vena Henry and Cecil Dillon. When her mother passed at an early age her father's mother reared her and her late sister, Yvonne Dillon. Hyacinth accepted Christ at an early age and received a Certificate of Baptism. Hyacinth was a skilled seamstress as well as a professional Nurse. After meeting the late Mr. Aubrey Baker at 15 years old, Hyacinth developed a true friendship that has lasted a lifetime. In 1952, when she turned 18 years old, Mr. Aubrey Baker sponsored her trip to London, England to pursue her dream of becoming a Nurse. She worked very hard and earned her professional studies degree in International Nursing. Then, she received Part 1 of Midwifery, in which she forged lifelong friendships with Pat Grant (Ontario, Canada), Sylvia Maharaj (London, England), and Wing Pahwahti (deceased, Thailand). Hyacinth had an incredible relationship with her husbands' siblings, including Mr. Walter Baker (Sandra) of London, England, Mr. Ivan Baker (Cristine) of London England, upon meeting them in the 1950s. Her sister-in-laws, the late Shirley Charles (Kenneth) and the late Elfreda Baker were very dear to her heart. In 1960, after 11 years of dating, in the beautiful city of London, England, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Baker vowed a matrimonial relationship that lasted nearly 57 years. Their only two sons, Anthony A. Baker and Andrew P. Baker, were also born in London. Mrs. Baker earned recognition as a Nurse in Great Britain and received many awards and accolades for it. From 1972 to 1983, Hyacinth and family relocated to Toronto, Canada; Brooklyn, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; then settled in Miami Shores, Florida. Hyacinth continued her Nursing career and changed focus to Mental Health Nursing throughout each relocation in the United States. Additional relationships formed with Gail Ali and Marsha and Paul Balliram since they were young children in Canada. Gail and Marsha's grandmother actually attended the Bakers wedding in London, England. Upon retiring from the United States Veterans Administration in 2001, Hyacinth and Aubrey relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. After a few bouts of North Carolina winters, the Bakers quickly returned to South Florida and settled in Wellington. Hyacinth Baker was full of life with many friends and family. She definitely was the example of "You work, you play harder". She will join her beloved husband, the late Mr. Aubrey Baker after missing him for the past 4 years. Hyacinth has touched many lives of so many people, including those that revered her and her husband as model parents and model marriage representatives. Hyacinth was the most thoughtful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, great aunt, and sister-in-law any person could ever have. She kept in touch with friends and family all of the time even if they were too busy to keep in touch with her. On the late Cecil Dillon's side, Hyacinth is survived by her sisters Inez Parker (Theophilus) of New York; Maribert Dillon(Canada); Jacklyn Dillon (Trinidad & Tobago).
