Hugo J. Guidi Jr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Lauer Hospice Unit at JFK Medical Center after a short illness with cancer. Hugo was born on April 20, 1931 in Harrison, NY. He attended St. Joseph's School for the Deaf and graduated from The New York School for the Deaf in White Plains in 1951. He was a printer at Newsday in Long Island, NY until his retirement in 1992. He and his wife moved to Lake Worth in 1997. Hugo is survived by his beloved wife Carmella (nee Santora) of 50 years, his two daughters, Kathy Guidi of Christchurch, New Zealand and Joy Wygant of Mill Valley, CA, and his granddaughter Sienna Grace Wygant. Hugo was an avid basketball player with his high school and deaf club teams and received both MVP and All-Star trophies. For many years, Hugo and Carmella enjoyed bowling in New York leagues. Most recently, Hugo attended the Palm Beach County Deaf Club and was passionate about his weekly poker nights with friends. Throughout their marriage, Hugo and Carmella enjoyed travel and cruising to numerous places around the world. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Matthew's Church on Thursday, August 30 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 (www.hpbcf.org).
