Hugh Stein

December 3, 1927 — August 23, 2022

Hugh Stein, of Boca Raton, Florida passed away at the age of 94 on August 23, 2022. He was born to Rae and Allen Stein on December 3, 1927, in the town of Malden, Massachusetts and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts - where Hugh's love of the Boston Red Sox began as a young boy. Hugh graduated from New Prep and then attended Brown University, where he majored in International Relations. He graduated in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean War. He chose Army Intelligence and spent three years in Japan. When he returned to the states, he took advantage of the GI bill and attended Columbia University where he received an MBA. Hugh then went to work for Union Carbide, in New York City, where he stayed until he retired. Hugh's other career was as a committed sports fan, where he worked tirelessly, spent countless hours, and amassed many like-minded "co-workers", whom he called friends. He enjoyed season tickets to the NY Giants, to whom he was forever loyal. He also held the distinction of being in the Blohards, a group of diehard Red Sox Fans. He was a top-notch tennis player for most of his life, and in his later years, in Boca Raton, Hugh became an avid golfer. On any given day you could find him in the morning playing the Boca Municipal Course, and by noon he was on a stool at Legal Seafood with a beer and a bowl of clam chowder. Hugh leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. Family meant absolutely everything to Hugh, you won't meet a more adoring father, stepfather, or grandfather. Hugh's favorite memories were always of the summers with his family spent near the bay and eating whole belly clams from Cobie's on Cape Cod. Hugh was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Stein, second wife, Debbie Stein, and his parents. Hugh is survived by his first wife, Lane Bolton, and his children, Susan Tobin (Jay) and Hugh Stein, Jr. (Carol) as well as his 7 grandchildren, Katharine Cohen, Jessica Leto, William Tobin, Patrick Tobin, Jordan Stein, Elizabeth Tobin, and Drew Stein. He is also survived by his stepchildren Julie Huck, Teddy Huck, Thierry Huck, John Huck, Matthew Huck, David Huck and their children.
