Hilda J. Medel was born on March 8, 1926, in Havana, Cuba, to Edelberto Aurrecoechea and Maria Josefa Diaz. On September 20, 2025, at the age of 99, Hilda was called into God's everlasting embrace, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. On Valentine's Day in 1953, Hilda married the love of her life, Manuel Medel. In 1962, they emigrated to the United States, bringing with them the faith, strength, and deep love of family that defined their lives. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with laughter, devotion, and nearly six decades of treasured memories, until Manuel's passing in 2012. Hilda was the proud mother of her daughter, Alina. She also deeply loved her son-in-law, Angel, who became a treasured part of her family. Hilda was the cherished grandmother of Alexandra, Josune, and Anais. She and Manuel also helped raise her seven nieces and nephews who came from Cuba with them: Rosie, Lisette, Magdita, Mari, Kiki, Miguelito, and Carlin, surrounding them with love, faith, and family. Hilda's life was marked by generosity of spirit. She had an extraordinary ability to make others feel seen, valued, and cared for. Ever the example of a lady, she never went anywhere without her lipstick, purse, and earrings, carrying herself with warmth, humor, and heart. Her strong faith guided her throughout her life, and she served her church, family, friends, and God with devotion through the Damas Católicas en Acción. Whether through her elegance, her kindness, or the strength she carried quietly, she touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Hilda's story will live on in the love she gave, the family she nurtured, and the countless memories she created. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, and friend. Her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited with her beloved Manuel in God's eternal peace.
