Harold Balkaran

Harold Balkaran, age 88, passed away on September 20, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on September 17, 1938, in Noitgedacht, Wakenaam, Guyana, to Dhanea Sooknanan and Megnee Binda. On February 14, 1965, Harold married his wife, Sheila, in Uitvlugt, beginning a marriage that would span more than 61 years. 

Harold moved to the Bronx, New York, in 1978, where he owned and operated a grocery delivery business. He later moved with his family to West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1991, where he worked for the School District of Palm Beach County until his retirement. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila, his sons, Rohan, Rohit (Shamindra), and Baynee (Ganika), and his grandchildren, Benjamin (Isabella), Dylan, Natasha, Sanjana, Kareena, and Nirvani. Harold was first and foremost a family man. He was known for his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, his warm heart, and his love of fishing, golfing, and playing the mandolin. 

His love of music stayed with him throughout his life, from his younger days playing the mandolin as a member of a band to the amazing vinyl record collection he built over the years. He also loved settling in to watch a good Western. Harold had a way of making people feel welcome. If you visited his home, he would always find something to offer you—something to eat, something to drink, a story, a little advice, or a joke. He loved his nieces and nephews dearly and never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge, his humor, or simply spend time with them. 

He was a strong role model for his sons. He was not only their father, but also their teacher, adviser, and friend. He guided them through life, taught them practical skills, encouraged them to work hard, and helped nurture them into the strong and successful men they became. More importantly, he taught them by example—showing them the importance of family, responsibility, generosity, perseverance, and being there for the people you love. Harold's greatest legacy can be seen in the family he built and the many lives he touched. 

His stories, his music, his humor, his wisdom, and the lessons he passed down will continue through his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Harold will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
