Hans Werner Wobst, 87, of Royal Palm Beach, FL and Southampton, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Born in Dresden, Germany, he was the son of the late Martin G. and Fanny (Haugk) Wobst. At the age of 20, during WWII, Hans was drafted into the U.S. Air Force to serve his country. While stationed in Scottsbluff, NE, he met Lois Andrews and they were married 8 weeks later. A month after their marriage, he was sent overseas to the European Theater. He served with the 324th Bomb Squadron and completed 25 missions. When he returned from his overseas duty, he was an instructor of bomb sighting. For his dedicated services to Our Great Nation, Hans was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross. He was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as commander of Post No. 7009 in Southampton and VFW Suffolk County Commander of the State of New York. After serving in the military, Hans and Lois resided in Southampton where he worked as a pastry chef for 25 years and later began his own catering company for another 25 years before retiring. Hans was also an EMT and started a volunteer ambulance service in Southampton which operated for 40 years. He enjoyed entertaining friends and family at his parties, was a shopaholic and loved clipping coupons. Han's memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Lois (Andrews) Wobst and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son, Floyd; 2 brothers, Heinz and George; and sister, Maria Brennan. A visitation will be held 6-8 PM on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Palms West Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at O'Connell Funeral Home in Southampton, NY with burial to follow in Southampton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, Fl 33407 or to Southampton United Methodist Church, 160 North Main Street Southampton, New York 11968.
