Gladys Rose Schoolcraft was born to Giovanni (John) Potito and Katherine Battaglia at her home in Garfield, New Jersey on December 23, 1927 and died at her home in Royal Palm Beach, Florida on August 18, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones, just as she wanted. Between these fateful dates, separated by nearly 97 years, she lived as a devout Catholic, as a vessel for love and forgiveness. In her early adulthood she entered a convent, until another duty called, and she became an Air Force cadet nurse. She married her late husband, Charles Schoolcraft, in 1954 and soon after began raising their family. She was a registered nurse, a eucharistic minister, vice president for the local chapter of the Council of Catholic Women (CCW), and a religious educator, first at St. Mary of the Lakes in Medford, NJ, and then at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles, in Royal Palm Beach, FL. Her entire life can be summarized by her nurturing of and service to others. In her own words, she was a fearless, relentless, resistant warrior, but a comforting and empathetic one, guided by faith. Her love of life, her sense of humor, and her big, boisterous laugh were well known to those lucky enough to be close to her. Her family and the preservation of its Italian traditions were her greatest joy. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her four children (Maureen, John, James, and Charlene), her ten grandchildren (Kevin, Sean, Brad, Katie, Liz, Erica, Krista, Drew, Sara and Alex) and her eight great-grandchildren (Austin, Emily, Penelope, Julian, Livio, Finley, Isla, and Robert).
