Gladys Alma Kimbro Smith Jenkins, 81, of West Palm Beach passed away Sunday August 1st, 2010. Born September 27, 1928, in West Palm Beach, she was the daughter of Charles and Hulda Marie Kimbro. Gladys was a Seventh Day Adventist; she grew up on Lakewood Road in West Palm Beach and was a submarine spotter during WWII. Gladys along with her first husband, Woodrow "Woody" Smith and young children drove to the Territory of Alaska in the late 50's where Woody was working on radar installation sites for the US Government. On January 3, 1959 Gladys and children attended the ceremony of pinning the 49th star on the flag for Alaska Statehood. Gladys and Woody were the former owners of Woody's Sport Shop, located on the current site of Al Packer Ford West on Southern Boulevard near Royal Palm Beach. Gladys married Lee W. Jenkins in 1975. Gladys along with her new husband and family decided to get out of the rat race of south Florida, moved to a 175 acre farm in Renick, West Virginia. Gladys returned to Florida in the mid 80's after the death of Lee to care for an ailing son and his family. Gladys spent the last years of her life in Century Village where she enjoyed her many friends and family. Beside her parents and both husbands, Gladys was also preceded in death by her brother Charles Kimbro, brother in law Frank Oswald and a son Robert "Bobby" Smith. Gladys is survived by a sister Dorothy Oswald of West Palm Beach, son Jeff Smith and wife Melinda of Royal Palm Beach and son Martin Smith of Ronceverte, West Virginia, Grandchildren, Katie Siegel of West Palm Beach, Robbie Smith and wife Theresa of Loxahatchee, Mark Smith and fiancée Melissa of Port Saint Lucie, Heather Smith of Royal Palm Beach, Great Grandchildren; Jacob and Taylor Smith of Loxahatchee and Bobby Siegel of West Palm Beach. Gladys is also survived by a host of other family and many, many friends. Family will receive friends Friday August 6th from 5 – 8 pm at Palms West Funeral Home, Royal Palm Beach, Fl..
