Gilberto De Leon

Gilberto De León, 88, of Belle Glade, passed away at his home on November 2, 2015 surrounded by family. He was an extraordinarily smart man loved by all who knew him. Gilberto, also known as León and Betico, was a small airplane pilot and mechanic. He enjoyed creating gadgets and working with his hands; he rebuilt his 1971 Volkswagen Beetle and a two-seater Aeronca Champion airplane which is now flown by his grandson Tito. He loved his family and his grandchildren meant the world to him. Gilberto is predeceased by his wife, Luz A. De León. He is survived by his children, Carmen Abercrombie (Danny), Gilberto De León, Mayra Stambaugh (Shawn), Gilberto De León-Valladares (Mayra Diaz), and grandchildren, Emily, Gilberto 'Tito', Alexander, Aaron, Colby, Kyle, Colton, and Samantha. Gilberto, our Papí and Abuelo, is loved and missed by many. A private cremation was held on November 11.
