Gary S. Leonard, 70, formerly of East Syracuse, NY passed away peacefully at his home in Wellington, Florida surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 15th after a year long illness. Gary grew up in Eastwood and earned an engineering degree from Syracuse University. He retired from Carrier Corporation after a successful 37-year career. Gary was known to his family and friends as an extremely kind-hearted and intelligent man. He had an amazing talent for home improvement projects and would often selflessly assist others with their own homes. He had great interest in cars and trains and took pride in his Corvette. Gary had a passion for his jazz records, books, and loved playing Boggle and doing crossword puzzles with his daughter. He enjoyed travelling with his wife to the National Parks, Alaska, and to various tropical locations. Gary was a quiet, generous man who will be immensely missed by everyone whose lives he has touched. Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Susan (Roach); daughter, Christine (Damon) Simms of Middletown, MD; his adoring grandson, Devin; sister, Joyce (Dave) Hutchings of Cazenovia; brother-in-law, Bernard (Joan) Roach of Boynton Beach, Florida and the son of his predeceased brother Charles, nephew Brandon (Mary) of Clay, and many loving nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. The family will hold a private "celebration of life" at a later date. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208; or Caring House, 2625 Pickett Rd., Durham, NC 27705.
