Gaetano “Guy” Scafati, professionally known as Guy Scott, a distinguished Palm Beach musician and highly sought-after pianist, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, in Stuart, Florida. He was 84 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Guy was the son of Silvio and Rose (Madigan) Scafati. He was raised in a family deeply rooted in music; his father was a respected trumpeter throughout New England, an influence that profoundly shaped Guy’s musical path and lifelong dedication to his craft.
Guy was a graduate of the Boston Conservatory, where he received formal training that laid the foundation for his accomplished career. He began his professional life performing in local clubs throughout the Boston area, quickly earning recognition for his skill, refinement, and versatility as a pianist.
In the early 1970s, Guy relocated to Palm Beach, Florida, a move that marked a defining chapter in his career. Shortly thereafter, he was introduced to the esteemed bandleader Neal Smith and became a longtime member of Neal Smith and His Orchestra. Guy performed with the orchestra from the 1970s until Smith’s passing in 2009, serving as an integral part of its musical success and enduring reputation.
Following Smith’s death, Guy assumed leadership of the orchestra and continued in that role through 2025. Under his direction, the orchestra remained a prominent fixture in Palm Beach society. Guy performed at many of the region’s most prestigious venues, including the Everglades Club, The Breakers, Jupiter Island Club, and the Flagler Museum’s Coconuts New Year’s Eve celebration, as well as at numerous private residences and social events. His distinguished career also included playing for US Presidents, international performances in Italy, Greece, Spain, China, and Australia, and for many years he spent summers performing in Newport, Rhode Island.
Guy is survived by his step-grandchildren, Blair (Sara) Interbartolo and Caitlin Interbartolo, and his step-daughter-in-law, Cherie Interbartolo. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beverly Scafati; his parents, Silvio and Rose (Madigan) Scafati; his sister, Kathy Scafati Beck; and his stepson, Randy Interbartolo.
