Frank Scaduto

FRANK SCADUTO May 1, 1920 – April 17, 2013 Royal Palm Beach, FL Frank (Francesco) Scaduto, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather entered into eternal rest on Wednesday April 17, 2013 at Palms West Hospital, Loxahatchee, FL. He was 92 years old. He was the son of the late Andrea and Anna LiVigni Scaduto and was born on May 1, 1920 in Partanna, Sicily, Italy. Frank contributed to the U.S./Alliance WWII victory by serving in the Italian Army Alpine unit during 1939-1945. In 1950 he married Jennie (Giovanna) Sciacca and immigrated to Brooklyn, NYC, where they raised two sons (Andrew and Tony) while he worked baking bread as co-owner/operator of C&L Bakery. He moved his family “upstate” to Newburgh, NY in 1969 where he worked at Luna Bakery and was so happy that his small NYC vegetable garden could be scaled up to a half acre, which fed grateful and amazed neighbors, friends, co-workers and family. Luna Bakery closed and he was recruited to work for Torino Bakery, a super family owned business in Newburgh, until retiring from full time work in 1985. His beloved, kind, gentle, funny wife, Jennie, died in 1981 and in 1983 he remarried Millie Rallo, who was much like Jennie, but further enhanced his assimilation into American culture until she died in 2005. During his second marriage came extending the family with Millie’s two sons (Jerry & Frank and their children) and moving permanently to Florida in 1998 where he maintained a moderately sized backyard vegetable garden, and shared many happy times with retired friends and family who he always treated to great pasta dishes, pizza and fig cookies. Respectfully known to some as “Don Cheech”, he was loved, admired, and appreciated by all, old and young, who knew him as a very down to earth, gentle, kind, friendly, playful gentleman who taught many how to farm, cook and make pizza. His favorite “sport” was WWE wrestling which he’d always watch on TV a few nights a week since the 50s. Frank was also predeceased by his brother, Antonino Scaduto, and sister, Anna Leone; and is survived by sisters Vitina Leone and Francesca Giaramita all of Partanna, Sicily. He is also survived by his sons and families: son, Dr. Andrew Scaduto M.D. (wife Deborah), his children Frank J. (wife Carly), Mary M.D., Andrea and Joseph Scaduto, and her children Rebecca (Jason Luksich M.D. of CA), William Henry (Karri); Catherine and Kelly Wiegand and great-grandchildren Noah and Eva Luksich (CA) and Will Henry II, of MO; son, Anthony Scaduto (wife Jaymee) and their children Frank M. (CA), Gina, and Jason of Newburgh, NY. Frank is also survived by Millie’s sons and families: son, Jerry Rallo (wife Rita) and their children Stephanie and Robert of Wellington, FL and son, Frank Rallo (wife Annette) and their children Michelle and Frank of Royal Palm Beach, FL. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews in Sicily, Italy; Canada; NC, FL, AZ, NY, D.C. and OH. He will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered by all, especially his buddies in FL, Stefano Anatra and Mariano Orlando, and in NY, Salvatore Geraci and Dominic Scaglione, and their wives (Maria and Anna; Lidia and Mima) and families, and his WWE watching little buddy, KJ Weber. Frank’s family would like to thank: Royal Palm Beach Senior Center (Dolly Hughes) where he met many nice people and enjoyed every afternoon after Millie passed away 2005-2013; and Anna Maria Orlando, a close friend and Physicians Assistant, who assisted with dad’s care while in the hospital; and the caring, dedicated staffs of Palms West Hospital and Royal Manor Skilled Nursing home where dad spent his last seven weeks. Special thanks to his so many friends as they were all key parts of a good life. Finally, we thank Michael Angotti (FL) and Michael Brooks (NY) and their staffs for their expertise, caring and compassion to assure dad’s visitation and burial are handled nicely and with dignity. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday April 22nd, at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles R.C. church, 100 Crestwood Blvd. South, Royal Palm Beach, FL, 33411 (www.olqa.com). NY visitation hours are from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday April 27th, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550 ( www.brooksfh.com ). Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery Mausoleum, 706 Route 9W North, Newburgh, NY, 12550. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northwood Greenlife, c/o Jeanne Stefansic, Garden Coordinator, 532 27th Street, West Palm Beach, FL, 33407. This is a community garden that aims to teach farming and donates excess produce to needy families. Frank maintained his backyard vegetable garden until February 2013!
