Elaine Marie Smith

Elaine Marie Smith, 76, of Wellington, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Born July 31, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of late Clemens H. Fish and Helen Fish. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Ronald E. Smith; a son, Chris Hankinson and wife, Jen of Grand Rapids, MI; a stepdaughter, Cindy Roland and husband, Chad of West Palm Beach, FL; a stepson, Robert Smith and wife, Melissa of West Palm Beach, FL; a brother, Gerald Fish and wife, Bonnie of Alden, MI; a brother, Roger Fish of Grand Rapids, MI; a sister, Jo Anne Galloway of Haslett, MI; and seven grandchildren, Elisabeth, Sarah, Adam, Morgan, Jimmy, Dylan and Zachary. Her son, Brian Hankinson of Grand Rapids, MI, preceded her in death. Elaine expressed a deep love for her entire family and especially for her grandchildren. Elaine loved sewing and was an active member of the Wellington Quilt Club. She was an expert seamstress and skilled in all aspects of sewing. It was her passion. She was generous with her talents and materials. She made over 300 girls' dresses and donated them to the Trinity Kid's Kloset in Palm Beach Gardens. Elaine had three requirements when gifting her dresses to charity: (1) they were to go to local children, (2) they were to be given freely, and (3) each dress must retain the tag she had custom printed reading: Jesus Loves You! Visitation will be from 3 PM to 6 PM on May 22, 2019, at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach, FL. The funeral will be at 11 AM on May 23, 2019, at St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Wellington, FL. Reverend Mark Caldwell will be officiating. The burial will be at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
