Edwin Michael Baranowski, 68, passed away on July 23, 2015 in West Palm Beach, FL. The son of Edwin J. and Mary Jane Baranowski, Ed was born and raised in Utica, New York. After graduating from Notre Dame High School, he received his BA degree in 1968 from Hamilton College and his JD degree in 1971 from the University of Virginia School of Law. As an attorney for over forty years, Ed acquired a national reputation in ntellectual property law, first at Kenyon and Kenyon in New York City. In 1981, he joined Porter, Wright, Morris, and Arthur in Colum-bus, Ohio where he became a partner. He was listed among the top 100 lawyers in the United States in his field for a number of years. Ed succeeded in his profession despite having suffered a disabling spinal cord injury in 1976, which left him with chronic health problems and relentless pain. He was a lover of gadgets and a fan of computers well before they became mass market items. He was a talented painter and sculptor, who exhibited his works at art shows. As a skilled craftsman, Ed designed and constructed furniture and other artifacts. Even after he could no longer create pieces himself, he continued to design them and oversee their construction, exam-ples of which grace the home that he and his wife shared in West Palm Beach. All who knew and loved Ed admired his intellect and wit, and especially his courage in overcoming the obsta-cles that confronted him. He is predeceased by his father, Edwin J. Baranowski. He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Shelley Osmun Baranowski, his mother Mary Jane Baranowski, his sisters Bonnie, Marcia, and Michele, his nieces and their families, Lauren and Donald Buhr-master and their children Kate, Brooke, and Edwyn, and Genevieve and Paul J. McAuley and their children Madison, Conner, and Liam, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Marion Osmun. All will miss him beyond what words can express. A mass will be celebrated in Utica, New York at a later date. Donations in Ed's memory may be sent to the Hamilton College Alumni Memorial Scholarship Fund, Hamilton College, 198 College Hill, Clinton, NY 13323.
