Edward Elmer Nichols, 75, of Loxahatchee, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026.

Edward approached life with a calm and thoughtful pace, finding meaning in the journey more than the destination. He cherished quiet afternoons at the beach, where the sound of the waves and the open horizon brought him a special closeness with God. Whether heading somewhere near or far, he preferred the scenic route, drawn to roads that meandered alongside rivers and through mountain landscapes. Guided by a quiet sense of faith, he moved through life without rushing, taking in the beauty around him with gratitude.

A devoted husband and father, Edward shared a life full of love, a deep faith, adventure, and companionship with his wife, Mary. They first met playing tennis, a shared passion that brought them together, and in the years that followed, they continued to enjoy racquetball and pickleball side by side. The courts were not only a place of play, but a place where lasting friendships were formed and a strong sense of community took root. That connection grew into a lifelong partnership, filled with travel, time on the water sailing together, and countless everyday moments that reflected their deep bond. As a father, he led by example, showing the value of patience, presence, and taking time to truly enjoy life with the people who mattered the most.

He will be remembered for his calm presence, words of encouragement, love of the outdoors, and ability to remind those around him to slow down and appreciate where they are. Edward's life was not measured by how quickly he moved, but by how fully he experienced each moment. He leaves behind memories of laughter, meaningful friendships, scenic drives, ocean breezes, and a life well lived alongside those he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Ploumis Nichols; his sons, Edward A. Nichols and William A. Nichols; his brother, William F. Nichols (Donna); and his sister, Linda M. Dusty (James).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edward E. Nichols Memorial Fund at Saint Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 110 Southern Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33405.
