Eduardo Santos Del Portillo

Eduardo Santos Del Portillo 5/28/38-9/15/17 Eduardo "Ed" or "Papi" Del Portillo passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017 at the age of 79 years old. He was born in Colombia to Victor & Paulina Del Portillo. He was married to Celmira Del Portillo and together they raised 3 children. Suzanne Martin, Eduardo Del Portillo and Patricia Del Portillo. In 1964 Ed and Celmira moved to the United States. Ed supported his family financially as a heavy machinery mechanic but more importantly he spiritually led his family by example. He was known for doing what was right and following the rules. Not only when it was easy but when it was hard. Being an honest person was very important to him and he was guided by his faith in God. Together he and Celmira served in the Kairo Prison Ministry and spent their free time helping prisoners to rebuild their lives and a faith in God. Ed also had a strong passion for soccer. He coached girls soccer for several years and he enjoyed spending time with kids and family. He was loved and admired by all who came in contact with him. He was especially loved by his children's significant others Brian Scheele, Jon Blumengarten & Kathy Pannell. He was able to pass peacefully knowing his children would be in good hands. In his last years of life, he was cared for by his family and received care from Ed & Tricia on a daily basis. They took care of his every need. They put their lives on hold and made sacrifices most would never dare make, but if you asked Ed & Tricia how or why they did it, they would say while it was hard at times, it was also their honor to take care of him and will always have fond memories of that chapter in their life. Ed is survived by his brother Victor as well as other family in Colombia. In addition to Celmira and his children, Ed leaves behind grandkids Nicholas, Christopher, Dominic, Andrew, Emilio & Demetri and our angel who is in heaven Miquela.
