Dorothy Isolyn Moss, affectionately known as, "Aunt Dor" was born on February 6, 1939, in Hope Bay, Portland, Jamaica, West Indies, to the late Daniel Barclay and the late Winnifred Matthias. She was the fifth of eleven siblings. After graduating from Carron Hall High School in Saint Mary, Dor trained to be a nurse, which was her true calling. She migrated to New York City in 1965 and continued her nursing career. She furthered her education and graduated from St. Joseph's College with a bachelor's degree in nursing and from New York University with a master's degree in public health. Dor loved nursing and helping people. She was an employee of Bronx Lebanon Hospital and Montefiore Hospital working as an operating room nurse and then later on as a home care nurse. She received many awards throughout her career. She remained in her profession for over forty years before she retired in December of 2001. Dor tremendously enjoyed travelling to many different countries and states with her husband, Vin, throughout the years. After her retirement, Dor relocated to Florida. She kept active and was very involved in her community. She gave her time volunteering at The American Red Cross, The Food Pantry and The Royal Manor Nursing Home. Dor was always there when you needed her. Just call, and she'd be there. She was a very giving person with a big heart. Dor took care of many family and friends who were sick. She became ill suddenly in August. During this time, many people were there right by her side until the very end. • Dor is survived by her husband of 51 and a half years, Vin; • Son, Vincent, Jr.; Daughter, Gillian, and Son-in-Law, Leighton; • Siblings: Leroy, Hyacinth and Karen; • Brothers-in Law: Ronald, Dennis, Glen and Harry • Sisters-in-Law: Elaine and Marlene • Cousins • Scores of nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; • And an extended family and friends whom she loved dearly & who cherished her even more!!
