Dorothy 'Dee' Hagan Black, age 72, passed away suddenly on December 7th, 2019. She was born on June 7th, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Robert and Dorothy Hagan. She was the third of nine children. Dee would want to be remembered by how she lived, with love and in service to others. She loved spending time with her five grandchildren. She was also deeply involved in her community, her choirs and her church. Music was such a big part of her life. She loved to sing at St Therese and with Schola Cantorum of Florida (formerly the Delray Beach Chorale.) She traveled the world singing with Berkshire Choral International. She also loved her role as a volunteer at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. Dee loved baseball and had unwavering support for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Family was the most important thing to Dee and she did not miss a family wedding. She traveled often to spend time with her brothers, sisters and their families whom she cherished. She attended nursing school at Niagara University in Niagara, NY and graduated with the Class of 1969. She served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Nurse Corp from 1967 -1972. She earned Masters Degrees in both Nursing and Education from the University of Missouri. This led to a lengthy career in nursing education. She was committed and valued in her career with Shared Medical Systems (later Siemens), training pharmacies to use software that helped prevent medical errors until she retired in 2008. Dee leaves behind her daughters and their spouses, Eileen and Dan Southwick and Erica and Jeff Thompson; her five grandchildren; Faith, Shannon and Paige Southwick and Maeve and Liam Thompson; siblings and spouses Marie Santone, Robert (Lynn) Hagan, Martin (Susan) Hagan, Kate (Dan) Parish, Daniel (Deb) Hagan, Elizabeth (Rick) Fisher, Mark (Karen) Hagan; MANY nephews, nieces, aunts and cousins; her former spouse Richard Black; and a wonderful network of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Hagan and her brother Tom Hagan. She was truly loved by all and will be forever missed. Please join us in celebrating her life. There will be visitation on Sunday, December 15th between 2-4PM and 6-8PM, with a wake service at 7PM at Palms West Funeral Home 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 16th at 10am at St Therese de Lisieux Catholic Church 11800 Lake Worth Road, Wellington FL 33449. A luncheon will follow the mass at Avanti's in Winston Trails Golf Club, 6101 Winston Trails Blvd, Lake Worth, FL 33463. In lieu of flowers, Dee's family requests donations in her name be made to 'Silvie Bells,' a non-profit supporting the families of NICU babies, www.silviebells.com (7546 Sally Lyn Lane, Lake Worth FL, 33467) or 'Every 90 Minutes' an organization committed to finding a cure for ALS, www.every90minutes.org (9002 Jolly Hollow Dr. Austin, TX 78750).
