We celebrate the life of an extraordinary man.

Dempsey was a man of quiet strength, boundless dedication, and a heart completely devoted to the people and communities he served. Whether you knew him as Captain, as a fellow veteran, as a coach, or simply as a friend, you knew a man of absolute integrity. But to us, he was the anchor of our family—a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather.

He dedicated his life to protecting and serving others. He answered the call of duty early, proudly serving his country in the United States Navy and the Naval Reserves. That deep-rooted sense of responsibility and bravery followed him into civilian life, where he spent his career with the Riviera Beach Fire Department. He climbed the ranks to retire as a Captain, a title he earned through years of courage, leadership, and mentorship to countless firefighters under his watch. We will carry an immense pride for the uniform he wore.

As dedicated as he was to his community, his greatest and most enduring project was his family. Nothing compared to the life and home he constructed alongside his beautiful wife, Sandra. Together, they shared an incredible 61 years of marriage—a beautiful, enduring testament to love, patience, and true partnership. As a father, he was always present. When Lisa, Dempsey, and Tara were growing up, he didn't just watch from the sidelines; he was right there on the field, coaching our sports teams and teaching us the value of teamwork, discipline, and showing up for one another. He was overjoyed to become a grandfather to seven grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren, passing down his quiet wisdom.

Those who knew him well knew he was a man who loved to figure out how things worked. He had a brilliant mind and incredibly patient hands. On any given day, you could find him immersed in one of his two favorite worlds: woodworking or building computers. You could find him at home navigating the cutting edge of digital technology, piecing together complex computer towers from scratch. He loved the challenge of creating, fixing, and perfecting. He built things meant to last—and that is exactly what he did with his life.

We are going to miss him terribly. We will miss his steady presence, his guidance, and his quiet strength. But as we say goodbye, we choose to celebrate a life beautifully lived. We take comfort knowing that a part of him lives on in his family, including his surviving sister Beverly and brothers Jack and Matthew.

Dempsey, —you have served your country, your city, and your family with honor. Your watch is over. Rest in peace.
