Della Giacone, 96, of Wellington, Florida, passed away at her home peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Ernesto and Maria (Maglio) Evangelista who immigrated to the United States from Grottolella, Provincia Avellino, Italy. Della worked as a nurse for many years in Bergen Pines County Hospital in Bergen County, New Jersey, where she was known as an excellent teacher and where she modeled the art and skill of nursing. She enjoyed traveling to Europe with her late husband Casper, loved going to the opera, Broadway plays, and passing on her love of Italian cooking to her family. Her friends and family will always remember her routine for getting ready for bed at night with a box of chocolates, a bottle of Vermouth, and Larry King. During these last few months, she devoted her time and life to her great grandson Justin Anthony. Della?s memory will be cherished by her children, James Giacone and Lucille Giacone-Klein; grand children, Tracy (Jeffrey) Siegel and Michael Klein; great grandson Justin Anthony Siegel; and brother Edmund Evangelista. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Casper Giacone; children Mary Giacone and John Dennis Giacone; sister, Esther Weickert and brothers Joseph and Roger Evangelista. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the Beaugard Funeral Home, in River Edge, New Jersey, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral mass will be held 9:30 AM, Thursday, September 25, 2008 at St Peter The Apostle Church in River Edge, New Jersey with a burial to follow at St. John Cemetery in Queens, New York.
