David M. Layman (age 68) of West Palm Beach, passed away on September 29, 2023. He was born in Pensacola, Florida and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from the University of Florida where he was active in the Sigma Chi fraternity and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977 and law degree in 1979. He had a long and prolific career as a real estate attorney, the majority of which was with Greenberg Traurig in West Palm Beach. He was known by his colleagues and clients for his expertise and integrity and was listed in The Best Lawyers in America every year for the past 14 years. Best Lawyers also named him "West Palm Beach Lawyer of the Year" in the field of real estate law in 2010 and 2016. In addition to his thriving career, he was passionate about helping those in need. Since the mid 1990's, he represented and served on the board of HomeSafe, a non-profit organization that helps prevent and assist victims of child abuse. In 2008 he received the Pro Bono Award for Non-profit Law from the Legal Aid Society for his work with HomeSafe. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, reading, and spending time at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club, where he served on the current board. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and previously served on its vestry. He was also a big supporter of his alma mater, the University of Florida. He remained a lifelong fan of the Florida Gators football team. Later in life he enjoyed traveling to and learning about France and enjoyed listening to podcasts about the city of Paris. He was predeceased by his parents James Hugh Layman and Winifred Smith Layman. After his mother's death when he was 4 years old, he was blessed with a new mother, Margaret Layman, who adopted him and loved him until her untimely death when he was 12 years old. He is survived by his wife Terri, his children Chris and Mary, his dog Remy, his grand-dog Yam, as well as his cousin Mary Frances Martin, her husband Bobby and their children Mary Sue and Robert. A service will be held on Saturday, October 21st at 11am at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 211 Trinity Place in West Palm Beach. Afterwards there will be a reception in the church parish hall.
