Daniel Lee Swartout

July 1, 1973 — July 12, 2022

Daniel Lee Swartout (Dan), age 49, Lake Worth, Florida, passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, on July 12, 2022. He was born on July 1, 1973, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Ronald and Judith (Stein) Swartout. Dan became a professional plumber after high school and worked hard in that area. A gentle soul, he reached out to helping others through his plumbing skills, never turning anyone down who needed work done for lack of funds. Also, by the way, there's not an appliance or fixture in his parents' home that has not been repaired or replaced by his hands, even including the outside sprinkler system. His parents have resided in that same home for thirty years, so one can imagine the repair. Along with helping others, Dan could take advantage of being in the Plumbers Union and take his children and others to the Annual Plumbers Picnic. Some fond memories there! A generous and selfless person, Dan befriended the homeless with money and food. On a recent vacation even, he made friends with a homeless man at a corner grocery store while walking with his daughter. The man greeted him with, "Hi, Dan!" and then Dan asked how his day had been going, as if they were long-time friends. This happened often, especially at a Shell station near where he was living, with handing over money almost every time he saw the same homeless man. As a young boy, growing up in the Midwest, and later in Miami, he had a free spirit and loved being outside, and being with animals a lot. Sometimes, he participated in BMX bike competitions or in outings with the Cub Scouts. After moving to Florida, he attended a Nature Camp in Apopka, swimming in the cold springs there each morning. He also joined the 4H Marines in Miami, having the opportunity of being on ocean outings, diving, and actually being able to view the march of the lobsters from the south to the Florida coast. At home, he had an array of animals: gerbils, hamsters, birds, three cats, a dog, and even a descented skunk. Later, after moving to Lake Worth, as a young man, he worked at the Walmart pet shop, then in service. He often spoke about becoming a veterinarian. Dan, as a father and grandfather, enjoyed times with his children and grandchildren. He especially loved watching movies with them and listening to music. His daughter, Ashlee, remembers singing along to his favorite rock songs, while she was in a car seat on the way to daycare. Later, as a grandfather, he loved playing in the ocean and the pool with his children, niece, and nephew on family vacations. He often wished his grandchildren in North Dakota were closer. Dan is survived by his parents, Ronald and Judith (Stein) Swartout; brother, Randy Swartout; children, Charles Swartout; Ashlee (m. Aavery) Frye, grandchildren Ayden and Adalynn Frye; niece, Lyette Swartout; nephew, Zachary Swartout; and partner, Tammy Williams.
