Our boy, Daniel, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2012 after a long, painful bout with cancer. He was a gentle giant standing 6 '5" and over 300 pounds, a big man with an even bigger heart of pure gold. Dan loved his Dolphins and never missed a game. Win or lose, he cheered them on. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and all around sportsman. His love of sports led him to become an official for high school volleyball, football, baseball, and softball, as a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association. He worked a game almost everyday for the past 7 years until his illness made it impossible for him to take the floor or run the field. In Dan's off time he would take the love of his life and only daughter, Elizabeth D. Owens, 15, to lunch almost everyday. Their trips to Disney World were one of the great joys of his life. Before he was unable to attend, he never missed a volleyball game of which his Elizabeth was a 6'1" star. Dan was a member of the Florida Board of Realtors for 25 years and a top producer for Illustrated Properties for the past 15 years. His likeable nature, honesty, and open personality were as evident at work as in his personal life. People loved Dan. Dan never failed to call his father everyday to reach out. He made sure that his parents knew he was always there and wanted to spend time with them. "Pop, what do you need?" he would begin, and he and Tony would talk as best friends. Dan is survived by his mother, Connie; father, Tony; daughter, Elizabeth; her mother, Diane, and the Brill family; his brothers, Chuck (Mary), Dale (Debbie), and Cary; nieces, nephews, and a large extended family as well as many special friends who love and will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, a college fund has been established for Dan's daughter, Elizabeth.
