Cristy Leigh Curphey, well-loved on this earth for forty years, went home to her Heavenly Father Sunday, April 10, 2011. She was surrounded by family and friends until the very last and cared for by the staff at Palms West Hospital and Hospice of Palm Beach County. Cristy was born January 14, 1971, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She traveled with her IBEW Local 728 parents and lived in many areas of the country. Her second home was in Schultz, West Virginia, where Cow Creek Methodist Church was her place of worship. Cristy attended Exceptionalities, Inc. day program for over 15 years where she learned many daily living skills, socialization with friends, and enjoyed signing, music and dance. The staff and clients at Exceptionalities were her extended family and provided great quality of life and caring. She was transported by Palm Tran Connection. Cristy is survived by her loving parents, Beverly and Devon Curphey (Loxahatchee, FL); her devoted brother, Todd, and his wife Colonna, and the best nieces ever, Emily and Kaitlyn, (Raleigh. NC) Her ever-present Grandparents. Clyde and Lucille Rost Eaton (Royal Palm Beach, FL); and her Grandmother, Geraldine Curphey (West Palm Beach. FL). She was preceded in death by her Grandfather, Clifford Curphey. She was always included in family activities by her aunts, uncles, and cousins, Cristy's best extended family included: Uncle Craig and Aunt Sandy Eaton including their children and grandchildren ... Derek Eaton; Hannah McKenzie (Jim) and Colby, Casey, & Cooper; Jessica Brantley (Andrew) and Wyatt; Madeline Eaton all residing in Gainesville, FL. Uncle Jeff and Aunt Teresa Eaton (Coral Springs, FL) including their children ... Shelly Rubinick (Matthew). Jeffrey John Eaton (Tallahassee, FL), and Corey Eaton (Coral Springs, FL) Uncle Denis & Aunt Diane Curphey reside in Zebulon. GA, Gary and Carol Lynn LeRow (San Antonio, TX) Cristy was preceded in death by her Great Aunts Polly, Maralee, and Jean. Cristy had two very special caregivers who helped her every single day. Cristy's friends are too numerous to mention, but she would surely want to thank all of our union brothers and sisters, especially those International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #728 who were there for us from her very first day of life. In addition, we would like to thank the love and support received from Palm Beach - Treasure Coast Central Labor Council Affiliates, the AFL-CIO Community Service Liaisons nationwide, and our dear friends who have known and loved Cristy for who she was ... a loving spirit. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Exceptionalities. Inc. The family will receive friends Friday, April 15th, 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm. Services will be held Saturday at noon at Palms West Funeral Home & Crematory.
