Claudia Druscilla Hinds was born to Rev. Samuel Alexander Bruce and his wife Susan Matilda (nee Gonsalves) in Essequibo, Guyana, South America, on November 4, 1920. She lost her mother at a young age and was raised by her father the Rev. Bruce and her stepmother, the Rev. Caroline Drayton Bruce. She outlived all of her siblings, Johnny, Henry, Doris, Rev. John and Drayton Christopher Bruce. She was married to the late Edward Archibald Hinds with whom she had seven children but only four survived to adulthood: The Honorable Samuel A. Hinds, Prime Minister of Guyana, South America; John Hinds of Georgetown, Guyana; Keith Compton Hinds of Memphis, Tennessee; and Agnes Devonish with whom she resided until her sudden death on July 22, 2012. In addition to her children, she leaves to mourn 15 grandchildren: Simone, Wayne, Sonja, John, Nikolai, Claudia, Nicole, Deborah, Paul, Pauline, Esther, Jevon, Nichole, Kevin, and Michelle; 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends. Mother Hinds, Aunt Baby, or Cousin Baby, as she was affectionately called was a hard-working woman. She worked at the Georgetown Hospital for many years and when her eldest son the Prime Minister finished his education in Canada and returned to Guyana, he told her it was time to quit. She relocated to the United States in 1981 to live with her daughter first in Brooklyn, New York, then El Paso, Texas, and finally settling in Haverhill, Florida, in 2004. Mother Hinds was blessed with good health and enjoyed socializing in her church and community. She was a devout and God-fearing woman who attended church and bible study regularly at Haverhill Baptist Church (HBC). She was a "Sunshiner" at HBC and brought sunshine to the lives of many. She was dressed and ready for church when God called her home. To the end she was His humble and faithful servant.
