Charles "Chuck" F. Shaw, 88, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026. Born on November 6, 1937, Charles was the youngest of five children born to parents William Wallace Shaw and Violet B. Shaw.
Charles moved to South Florida as a young child before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1955. Graduating at the top of his military training class at the United States Naval Air Technical Training Center, he elected to be stationed in San Diego, California. He served his country honorably aboard the USS Bennington as an Aviation Ordnanceman, reaching the rank of Petty Officer Third Class.
Following his military service, Charles attended trade school in Miami, Florida, to specialize in HVAC systems. He served his local community for over 20 years before opening his own HVAC business and acquiring commercial properties to provide real estate space for local small businesses in Lake Worth.
Charles was a man who found joy in simplicity. He loved cooking amazing meals for his family, puttering around the yard, and tending to plants picked by his wife, Gloria. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting 49 states across the country, with South Dakota being the only one he had no interest in seeing!
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death in 2019 by his loving wife of 58 years, Gloria Jean Shaw.
Charles is survived by his two children, Kimberley Shaw Johnson and Richard (Lisa) Shaw; and four grandchildren, Matthew (Raven) Johnson, Courtney (Preston) Johnson, Nicholas (Grace) Shaw, and Carrie (Ty) Hoover; and three great-grandchildren, Piper, Carter, and Spencer.
A Celebration of Life ceremony with military honors will take place at a later date.
