Charles Raymond “Charlie” Dorsey, Jr.

Charles Raymond “Charlie” Dorsey, Jr., son of Charles Raymond Dorsey, Sr. and Jerri Jarrell Dorsey, was born in 1928 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. As Charlie loved to tell people, when he was born there were only ten beds at Good Sam. A lifelong resident of West Palm Beach, he witnessed and contributed to the remarkable growth and progress of his hometown throughout his life.

After attending Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, Charlie graduated from the University of Miami, where he was a proud member of Sigma Nu fraternity and remained a loyal Miami Hurricane for life. He later joined his father, “King” Dorsey, in business at Palm Beach Mortgage and Dorsey Insurance. Over the years, Charlie served on numerous boards and was deeply involved in organizations dedicated to the betterment of the community, including Chamber of Commerce, business groups, church groups and Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he was a lifelong Trustee.

In 1950, Charlie married Anne Elizabeth “Betty” Dorsey. Together, they were devoted members of the First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach and actively participated in many local organizations. After Betty’s passing, Charlie was blessed to find love again with Carole, who brought joy, companionship, and adventure back into his life. The two shared a love of travel, living on the water, and time spent with their blended family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Carole; his son, C. Ray Dorsey III (Heather); his daughter, Dianne Welborn Dorsey; and his cherished grandsons, Chad (Sandy) and their four children, and Jed (Sarah) and their three children.

The world will have less humor and kindness without Charlie, but his memory will live on in all those he helped, cared for, and loved.
