Obituary for Carmen M. Saldana August 12, 1945 – April 3, 2019 Wellington, Florida | Age 73 Carmen M. Saldana, age 73 passed away April 3, 2019 in Wellington, Florida after a courageous battle with cancer. Carmen was born August 12, 1945 in Jalisco Mexico, an area known to be the birthplace of mariachi music and adorned with colorful and festive murals around the city. This would explain her joyful and spirited personality that might be displayed with a dance, a song, or a joke she might say to cheer everyone up. Carmen came to the United States at an early age with her Uncle and Aunt who took her to California to live. Growing up there and after attending the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for a brief time before moving to Brownsville, Texas where she married, and gave birth to two beautiful girls. Carmen was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend with a smile that would brighten any room. Her wit was her gift to soften any difficult situation. Carmen is survived by daughters, Graciela "Gracie" Lesley (and husband, John); Bertha (Betty) Hassaballa (and husband, Mohamed); four grandchildren, Desarae, DeAndre, Mya, and Cairo. She is also survived by Rodolfo Saldana and his wife and children; along with countless other family members and friends from the United States, Mexico, and around the world. Carmen will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew her. A celebration of life will be held in Brownsville, Texas at a later date.
