CAPTAIN DANIEL PATRICK SARGENT Captain Daniel Patrick Sargent, 50, lost his battle with ALS on Saturday November 5, 2011. He grew up in West Palm Beach and graduated from Forest Hill High School. He went on to Florida State University, where he became a die-hard Seminole fan. After graduation he was hired by The City of West Palm Beach Police Department. He earned the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and retired as a Captain. Throughout his 27 years with the department, he was assigned to several tactical units, road patrol and Special Investigations. He obtained a commercial helicopter pilots license and was part of the aviation unit. His proudest accomplishment was being the Executive Officer/Team Commander of the SWAT team. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville and the F.B.I. National Academy. Dan is survived by his wife of 28 years and high school sweetheart, Mary (Lackey); daughter, Kelley and son, Sean; his father, Timothy; brothers, Rick (Cindy) and Tim (Tina); sister, Sue Hoelzer (John); his mother-in-law, Fran Lackey; father-in-law, William Lackey (Maxene) and sister-in-law, Debi Stamper (John). He also leaves nephews, Michael, John, TJ, Robby, Luke and nieces, Kristen, Ashley, Casey, Kayla and Lille. He is predeceased by his mother, Sara. Although ALS took his arms, legs, speech and finally the ability to breathe, it did not take his spirit, courage or sense of humor. He fought this battle till the end. We will love and miss him forever. We would like to thank our friends, family, police officers, and firefighters who came together to form "Team Sargent". This support system touched Dan's heart and was very helpful during our difficult time. Visitation will be Thursday November 10, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Palms West Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Christ Fellowship Church on Northlake Blvd. at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Dan's name to the ALS Association or Hospice of Palm Beach County.
