Blondel Debrosse, of Palm Beach, passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 81.
Blondel was born on April 5, 1945, to Louis St. Cyr Debrosse and Solange Blemur in Gonaives, Haiti.
Blondel married Simone Roumer in 1971. They went on to have two children, Diandra Debrosse and Dean Debrosse.
Blondel received his Diplome D’Artiste Dramatique from the Department De L’Educational Nationale, Conservatoire National in 1964. After immigrating to the United States Blondel earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and a Masters of the Arts in French Literature from Brooklyn College.
Over the course of his career, he worked as an accountant and as a French professor at Brooklyn College.
His greatest pride was as a writer, playwright and actor.
He performed in Marie-Octobre, a play presented by Les Messagers de l’Art at the French Institute in Port-au-Prince. After moving to New York City, he was the founder of The SHAD (The Haitian Society of Dramatic Art), in which he directed and performed in Exit the King (1976) and The Chairs (1977) in Boston and New York. A few years later he directed and performed in an interpretation of La Passion by Charles Péguy.
He authored two plays which were published by CIDIHCA - Conscience Criblée and Le Parleur de l’Heure, a monologue. He was a collector of books and music, and was committed to the integrity of the French language, and Haitian culture.
Blondel is predeceased by his wife, Simone Roumer Debrosse; his son, Dean Debrosse; his father, Louis St. Cyr Debrosse; his mother Solange Blemur; his sisters Nelta Auguste and Maryse Debrosse, and his brothers Nemour Blemur and Patrick Debrosse. He is survived by his daughter Diandra Debrosse, and her daughters Zoe Burnley and Anais Zimmermann; and his daughter-in-law Apryl Henry, and his grandson Deen Debrosse. He is survived by his brothers Ricot Dupuy and Gerald Dupuy; and his sisters Marie Antoinette Dorismond (husband Rene Dorismond), Marie-Michelle Alexandre and Regine Siegel. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews – Pascale Dorismond-Davis, Joanne Dorismond-Gilchrist, Nancy Dorismond Bonelli, Rolande Auguste, Pierre Marie Auguste, Nathalie Auguste, Chantale Auguste, Anis Blemur, Arie-Lex Blemur, Herve Blemur, Irvine Blemur, Georges Blemur, Paul-Hubert Blemur, Solange Poulard, Raynald Blemur, Marie-Michelle Miller, Jean Blemur, Gabriel Laine, David Blemur, Jacques Blemur, Nathalie Talley, Miriam Blemur, Patrick Blemur, Lillie Alexandre Brown, Jean Martin Alexandre, Sadia Alexandre Kleffner, Michelle Alexandre Walter, Sherley Dupuy, Sally Dupuy, Martine St. Louis, and Nachman Siegel.
Viewing services will be held at Palm West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00am. Service will follow at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, and interment shall be at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery of the Diocese of Palm Beach.
