Birgitta Gerda Lilja

Birgitta Gerda Lilja April 27, 2014 Birgitta "Gitta" Lilja of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 27th at the age of 78. She was the loving wife of James McKinnon and the devoted mother to four children, survived by her son Thomas Anderson and daughters Monica Vidal and Katarina Anderson. She is predeceased by her daughter Karin Anderson. Gitta was the daughter of and is predeceased by Nils Lilja and Astrid Lilja and sister to Carl-Eric "Calle" Lilja and Sylvia Kannerberg. She was born in Mexico City, Mexico and moved to her native country of Sweden at the age of 16. She then travelled to the United States two years later where she met her first husband, Olof aboard the ship. Gitta lived in the Washington, DC area for 40 years working as an accountant at several law firms prior to retiring and moving to West Palm Beach Florida where she and her current husband James lived. She loved animals and enjoyed her pet cats over the years. She was the loving Grandmother to Nils Vidal, Jean Paul Vidal, Chris Anderson and Jessica Anderson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Johan Kannerberg, Karin Kannerberg, Anders Kannerberg, Maria Kannerberg, Carlos Lilja, Barbro Lilja and Maria Edsmar. She leaves behind many other family members and friends. Gitta will be dearly missed. The family is planning a Memorial Service in July to recognize her and celebrate her life. Additional details of the service will be available soon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Birgitta's name to Hospice of Palm Beach County to benefit the "Lilac" team.
