Bhargaviamma Kottarathil

December 30, 1923 — December 20, 2023

Bhargaviamma Kottarathil, addressed by all respectfully and lovingly as "Amma" went to Lord's abode on December 20, 2023 at the glorious age of 100. Amma was born to Narayana Pillai and Lakshmiamma on December 30, 1923 at Vadavathoor in Kerala, India. She was married to Parameswarn Nair and they were blessed with six children. Amma was a homemaker to the core. In spite of her hearing and speech impairments she raised her children and grandchildren with passion and delight. Matriarch of five generations, she greeted everyone with her sweet smile and a tender glow in her eyes. Devoted to Lord Krishna, she spent her free time reading Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana. She regularly lit the lamp and chanted hymns. She was not just a spiritual soul, she loved fun! WWF shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy were her favorites. She immersed herself in those shows and shouted in excitement with the participants. She loved the thrill and suspense of these shows. She also loved Malayalam movies and series. Amma was always seen wearing fresh and well starched set mundu. In her traditional Kerala attire, she was a vison to behold. Bhargaviamma is survived by her six children- Saraswathiamma, Shivakumaran Nair, Rajappan Nair, Leelamma Nair, Shivaprasad and Saralakumari, and by her 12 grandchildren, 14 great grand children and one great great grandchild. Her children are married to Gopalakrishna Pillai, Suvarnakumari, Padmakumari, late Chandu Nair, Thankamani and Venugopal. Bhargaviamma has been living with her daughters Leela Nair and Sarakumari in the U.S for the past nine years.
