OBITUARY Barbara Barrett Heekin Barbara Barrett Heekin died February 1, 2019 at the age of 86 with her family by her side in Wellington, Florida. Mrs. Heekin was born May 11, 1932 in Evanston, Illinois to Herbert Ross Barrett and Frances Smedberg Barrett. She moved to Glendale, Ohio in 1943 where she attended the Glendale School and graduated from Hillsdale Academy. She continued her education at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. Mrs. Heekin was married to Kenneth Peters Heekin, also of Glendale, Ohio, in 1952. They had three daughters, to whom she devoted the greater part of her time and energy. She was a long-time religious education instructor at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Metairie Louisiana and Prince of Peace Parish in Princeton, Massachusetts. She served on the Members Council of the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts. As a docent, she conducted tours of the museum and taught art to children from the public elementary schools. She was a dedicated advocate for animal welfare and championed a number of animal welfare causes. An alumna of Middlebury College, she was a member of the Class of 1954 and participated in the coordination of her classmates' alumni giving. In her spare time, she practiced Tai Chi and was a brown belt in karate. Mrs. Heekin is survived by her husband Kenneth Heekin; her daughters Anne Heekin-Canedy, Sarah Heekin Redfield, and Deirdre Heekin and their spouses; her granddaughters Tara Redfield and Siobhan Heekin-Canedy; her sister Joy Ford and her spouse; her brother Ross Barrett and his spouse; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Olsen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint Gabriel's Church in Glendale, Ohio on Saturday, February 16 at 10:00 am.
