Aubrey “Sonny” Joseph Chung was born on November 16, 1931, in Kingston, Jamaica. Sonny shared his life with his beloved wife of 70 years, Eunice Veronica Chung. Together they were blessed with 7 children, 22 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Sonny was a hardworking man with an impressive work ethic and a keen business sense. He provided for his family by acquiring a small shop from Hugh Moy Chung, which he built into a thriving and successful business called Sonny’s Supermarket in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Through his vision and dedication, he continued to create opportunities for himself and those around him. He later migrated to West Palm Beach, Florida, where he owned and operated two Wuv’s Restaurants. After selling his restaurants, he moved to Toronto, Ontario, where he worked for the City of Toronto. He later retired to Phoenix, Arizona and spent his time caring for his grandchildren. His dedication to his work reflected the same dedication he brought to his family—always striving to care for, provide for, and create a better life for those he loved.

Beyond being a cherished husband, devoted dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, he has touched countless lives. Sonny was a father figure to many including Ordelle, Derrick, June and Grace whom he welcomed into his home and cared for as his own. His generosity and philanthropy were not something he spoke about; it was simply how he lived. He quietly supported his community with donations, school fees, small loans and transportation. People in the community knew that if they were in trouble, they could turn to Sonny, who never hesitated to help someone in need. Even in the middle of the night, people would arrive at his door injured or feeling ill, and he would drive them to the hospital. When he came upon a car accident, he would stop and help transport those who needed medical attention. Sonny was also someone people naturally looked to for guidance, making him a trusted advisor and mentor who was always willing to share his wisdom, guidance, and experience. He taught those around him the importance of hard work, perseverance, compassion, and empathy.

Perhaps the most remarkable testament to Sonny's character is the stories people continue to share about him. Wherever his family travels people tell stories of his generosity, kindness, and the ways he helped them or someone they knew. His family has come to realize that his impact extended far beyond their own home. He left a lasting impression on people in every community in which he lived.

After 94 years of life, Sonny passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on through all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. The stories of his kindness will continue to be told, and the values he lived by will continue through the generations he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
