Attis Solomon

October 14, 1922 — March 18, 2021

Born – October 14, 1922, Canaan, Tobago Died – March 18, 2021, West Palm Beach, Florida Attis Solomon was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born in Canaan, Tobago to the late Florence Griffith and Walter Trim. Attis, affectionately known to many as Sister, was preceded in death by her three siblings, Emmons Trim, Iris Sebro, and Patience Charles. Attis is survived by five wonderful children, Verne, Bernard, Barbara, Merle, June and their respective partner(s); 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 20 great, great-grandchildren; and 3 great, great, great-grandchildren. Her life was characterized by her quiet demeanor with a powerful source of inner strength as matriarch of the family, her strong faith, and real desire to be of service to both friends and families. After migrating from Trinidad and Tobago in 1948 and again in 1965, Attis lived in New York, New Jersey, California and her final resting place in Florida. Attis grew up in the church, was a woman of unshakeable faith, and throughout her life, no matter where she was, she found a church to attend. Her most recent church home was the Berean Church, West Palm Beach, Florida. Our memories of Attis will be of a fiercely independent woman, a master seamstress, and a person who was always willing to help others. Even in her later years, Attis continued to do the things she loved best, which included, sewing, crocheting, making the best pone in the world, and teaching Sunday School. When we use that kitchen towel with a crochet handle or wrap ourselves in one of her famous quilts, it will bring a warmth to our hearts knowing that we still have a piece of Attis in our lives. She kept up her daily pilgrimage to the Senior Center where she was a treasured member of their community. She was an innovator and environmentalist long before it became popular. She worked with the local grocer to obtain excess plastic bags for her crochet project. She used these bags to make really nice handbags and accessories blessing her family members with these gifts while at the same time playing her part to help save the planet. She also taught her friends at the Senior Center how to recycle plastic grocery bags into women accessories. The name "Sister" is so appropriate for Attis as she was the ultimate sister for all of us, providing that friendship, sage advice and just being there for you with a friendly word and a bible verse to help with your troubles. Attis will be tremendously missed but her light will shine forever as we have all had the privilege to share this life with her. Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
