Arthur E. Werkle Sr, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away at his home on June 17, 2016 at the age of 96. Formerly of Brooklyn, and Uniondale, NY. Arthur was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was awarded numerous commendations including 4 Battle Stars including one for service in the Battle of the Bulge and also the liberation of Berlin. Arthur was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and also an Honorary Life Member of the Uniondale NY Fire Department. He was a lifelong baseball fan with an encyclopedic memory for baseball facts and players. Given a tryout by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1938 and playing with baseball greats including Joe Di Maggio during his time in the service were some of his greatest memories as a young man. Beloved husband of 70 years to the late Florence Werkle. Father of: Alice (William) Rossi, Barbara (Philip) McDonnell, Arthur (Joan) Werkle, Jr.; grandfather of: Diane, Laura, Jennifer, Allyson, Janice, Matthew, Carlene, Stephen, Caryn, Stefanie; great-grandfather of 14. A visitation will be held at Palms West Funeral Home on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St Rita Catholic Church on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at South Florida National Cemetery
